Healing

The path to dis~ease and finding the way back home.

I don't believe that we walk around, randomly getting knocked down by disease. The word ‘dis-ease’ simply means we are in a state of unease, that our body is trying to communicate something. Perhaps we have ignored all its subtle forms of ‘speaking’ to us, ignored the feelings and sensations. We’ve pushed through, carried on, self-medicated, anything but stopped, listened and taken note. This may have been the case for many years. Eventually, usually with a few trial runs, but sometimes it may feel out of the blue, the body says ‘enough’ and this time we are forced to listen. We may be given a diagnosis or be in too much physical discomfort to continue day-to-day life. Sometimes it's an event or accident that stops us in our tracks — and finally …… the body has our attention, and we have no choice but to listen.

Firstly, I think it's important to note here that although I believe we create everything in our lives, we need to know that it's not about blame. Sometimes, when people first come to realise the mind-body connection or the law of attraction and begin to understand that they are the cause of their issue, they think, “Oh my God, I must have done something wrong, or I wouldn’t have got this, whatever’, or even worse than that, blame others in their suffering, exclaiming, “it’s their own fault”, there’s a lack of empathy, a belief that they brought this situation in on themselves. Judgement is not helpful to anybody.

So the first thing is compassion, compassion for ourselves, compassion for other people.

When we're out of alignment, when we're out of whack, as most of us humans are, we live lives that aren't in sync with our true nature and with our own rhythms, cycles, and seasons. When we continually live in this state, the body reflects this and this is how (I believe) disease comes about.

Instead of tuning into our bodies, we tune out, with the million distractions that are now at hand.

At this point, some of us will rail against it. “How could this body let us down etc?” We can begin to regard our body as the enemy?

Others will give the responsibility to doctors and other professionals to 'fix it' and some will begin the (sometimes long and arduous) journey homeward — trying to discover the root, the messages and what we are being asked to overcome during this lifetime.

For some there will be a mixture of all of the above and sometimes we might go back and forth for a while (again no judgement). If we want true healing though, the last (I believe) has to be deployed.

Now many will argue for the genetic component, but our understanding of this is changing — according to Dr.Joe Dispenza.

“We used to think that genes created disease and that we were at the mercy of our DNA. So, if many people in someone’s family died of heart disease, we assumed that their chances of also developing heart disease would be pretty high. But we now know through the science of epigenetics that it’s not the gene that creates disease but the environment that programs our genes to create disease—and not just the external environment outside our body (cigarette smoke or pesticides, for example), but also the internal environment within our body: the environment outside our cells.”

So our genes can actually be turned on or turned off by the way that we choose to live, by all the things that we're thinking and believing, all the things that make up our ‘personal reality'. Yet, most of these beliefs have been given to us, a belief is only a thought we keep thinking. They are patterns and beliefs handed down to us in childhood, culturally, through life experience etc. They are not our real authentic self.

Our bodies know the truth, they have their own intelligence and wisdom and if we can learn to tune in regularly, we can tap into this and keep readjusting our sails to our own course.

When we begin to view disease through a lens of curiosity and begin to notice, question and interrupt our thought patterns, we are no longer ‘unconscious’. We can dialogue with our bodies, listen to our intuition and feel our inner compass.

We are back at the helm of our ship and can begin to navigate the waters and find our way home.

Welcome to 'the work' —

Whilst I do not believe it is a horse's job to ‘fix’ us, I do believe that they are incredibly gifted at showing us what we need to see and, if we are willing to do our part, they are generous enough to show us the way.

I have witnessed experiences that blow my mind and that could only be truly felt by a client in this environment.

I’m also not sure (given the choice) how much of our historical connection they would have willingly participated in, which is why I choose to honour the horses and they have freedom and choice in their interactions in sessions and this in itself can have much to teach us. When I witness them show up and offer profound wisdom or hold space in a way that feels purely unconditional, I really do believe they find a similar purpose in this work, which is deeply humbling.
